Whatever Prashant Has Achieved, He Has Done on Merit: CSK’s ₹14.20 Crore Signing Prashant Veer Scripts His Own Rise
CSK’s ₹14.20 crore signing Prashant Veer becomes one of IPL’s most expensive uncapped players. Family says the young all-rounder rose through “pure merit” as he gears up to play under MS Dhoni.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pulled off one of the biggest surprises at the IPL 2026 auction, securing 20-year-old Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Prashant Veer for an eye-popping ₹14.20 crore. The deal makes him the joint-most expensive uncapped Indian player in the tournament’s history.
Entering the auction with a base price of just ₹30 lakh, the left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder triggered an intense bidding contest involving Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, and a late push from Sunrisers Hyderabad, before CSK finally clinched the high-potential youngster.
Born on November 24, 2005, in Amethi, Prashant Veer has rapidly climbed the domestic ranks. Known for his aggressive lower-order hitting—earning him the nickname “Miller”—and his effective slow left-arm orthodox bowling, Veer first made headlines in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League (UPT20) with Noida Super Kings. There, he smashed 320 runs at a strike rate of 155+ and delivered key breakthroughs with the ball.
“He Has Reached Here on His Own Merit” — Family Reacts
Prashant’s massive payday comes on the heels of CSK trading veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to Rajasthan Royals, signaling a new era for the franchise. Speaking to MyKhel, Prashant’s uncle Sachin Tripathi expressed pride and joy over the youngster’s journey.
“Everyone in the family is extremely happy. We never imagined he would reach this stage so early. We hope he shines for CSK. The entire family is backing him with our best wishes,” Tripathi said in an exclusive conversation.
Hailing from Sahajipur village in Amethi, Prashant began playing cricket at the age of 11. His rise, his family insists, is solely the result of his hard work and discipline.
“Woh jo bana hai, apne dum pe bana hai (Whatever he has become, he has become on his own),” his uncle emphasized. “No one promoted or pushed him. He loved cricket, and the family simply supported him.”
A Proven Talent Across Formats
Veer’s domestic achievements extend beyond UPT20. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he impressed with:
112 runs at a strike rate of 167+
12 wickets at an economy of 6.45
He has also made his first-class debut and delivered notable performances in age-group and List A matches.
With his move to CSK, Prashant Veer will be mentored by the legendary MS Dhoni and guided by one of IPL’s most successful franchises. For the young all-rounder, the 2026 season could mark the beginning of a defining phase in his career.
